Dry Skin Try these proven tips to Soothe Your Skin

What is dry skin? Dry or xerosis skin refers to flaking or scaling of dry skin without any signs of inflammation.

Dry skin can be born due to a variety of reasons due to lipid loss of skin due to use of

  • Hard Soap
  • Rough/Itchy Clothing
  • Extended Bath/showers

Any changes in the environment such as exposure to hot/cold weather with low humidity levels.
Showers/bath tips to avoid worsening your dry skin?

  • Do not bathe/shower for more than 5-10 min. hot water for an extended period of time will steal your skin's natural oils.
  • Opt for soaps that are soft and have added oils and fats.
  • Antibacterial/deodorant soaps should be avoided, including those containing alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA), alcohol, retinoids or fragrances.
  • Use enough cleaner to remove dirt/oil from your skin than a thick foam.
  • Avoid using bath sponges, scrubs or washcloths. In case you need to, make sure you use them very lightly.
  • Gently pat or sponge or your skin with a towel in 20 secs. Never rub the skin during wiping.
  • Apply a moisturizer or oil, after you have dried your skin. Moisturizers Help preserve the natural lipids of your skin and check for dehydration by trapping and sealing the water in the outer layer of the skin.
  • Choose moisturizers that contain ceramides, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, sorbitol, and lecithin. These are dampening, helping to attract moisture.
Other helpful tips

  • Go for natural fibers like cotton, silk innerwear. Fabrics of any other material including wool can irritate even the healthy.
  • When you wash your clothing, use detergents labeled as “hypoallergenic,” i.e. less likely to cause an allergic reaction and which do not contain any perfumes or dyes.
  • San fabrics that irritate the skin including wool.
